The state Department of Transportation (DOT) has approved the town's request to remove the state-owned railroad bridge, over Drakeside Road.

Town Manager Fred Welch told selectmen this week the bridge will be taken down by the DOT.

"We don't know when," Welch said, "but when -it does happen, the road will be closed so they can take the bridge unit down."

Welch said the DOT plans to remove the bridge and reassemble it at one of the state trails in the northern part of the state.

Voters approved a warrant article to petition the DOT to remove the bridge last year. The board would like to see the bridge removed so the road can be made passable for large delivery trucks.
