Adeline Copeland Marston
April 29, 1884 - January 14, 1963
Miss Marston died Monday, January 14, 1963, at the Exeter Hospital following a long illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Hampton, Miss Marston taught in the local school system for 47 years before retiring in 1955. Two years later, on February 3, 1957 at a special school district meeting, the new elementary school off High street was name the Adeline C. Marston school in her honor.
Born in Hampton, April 29, 1883 (Dow's History of Hampton, N.H. says 1884), she was the daughter of Otis H. and Lucy (Godfrey) Marston. She was a member and historian of the First Congregational church, a life member of the Missionary Society and a member of the Women's Guild.
Miss Marston was actively interested in preserving the history of her native town and was a past president and long time member of the Meeting House Green Memorial and Historical Association.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a life member of the Women's Relief Corps, and an organizer of the Hampton Garden Club.
For more than 25 years, she was a member of the Portsmouth Community Chorus and also belonged to the Hampton Monday Club.
Serving as bearers at the private service were Roy W. Gillmore, Allen Knight, Bruce E. Russell, Edward Seavey, Jr., and Samuel A. Towle.
She is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Lenora Wing, who lived with Miss Marston at the family homestead, 868 Lafayette Road; Mrs. George K. Ross, Long Island, N.Y.; and a nephew, Charles 0. Marston of Pasadena, California.

"Adeline C. Marston Elementary School,, opened January 28, 1957, at the end of Marston Way, off High Street, Hampton, NH.
The new school was dedicated on February 3, 1957, with the invocation being given by the Rev. Norman Allers, and the ribbon being cut by Miss Adeline C. Marston.
In attendance at the ribbon cutting ceremony were Norman Merrill and Richard Simonds, School Board members.
An Open House was held from 3 to 5 p.m. on that Sunday afternoon.
