HAMPTON -- Nancy Cicco, a community journalist and editor with more than 15 years of experience, has been named editor of the Hampton Union.

As editor, she will be responsible for directing the coverage and setting policies for the newspaper published by Seacoast Media Group.

"Nancy Cicco is an award-winning reporter and editor who has been with Seacoast Media Group since 1998," said Howard Altschiller, executive editor of Seacoast Media Group. "In fact, I believe Nancy has worked for just about every paper we have except the Hampton Union and I know she is excited to take on this new challenge. Hampton residents can expect Nancy to be hard-working, accessible and fair, just what you want in a community newspaper editor."

Cicco replaces editor Cal Killeen, who is leaving the company to become the editor of the Princeton Packet in New Jersey.

"Although I'll miss the people and politics of Hampton and neighboring Seacoast towns, I know the readers of the Union will be in good hands with Nancy," said Killeen. "She's conscientious, caring and capable."

Cicco says she is excited about the new challenge of working for a twice weekly and getting to know the Hampton community.

"I have much to learn about this coverage area and I am eager to do it, in order to offer readers timely, relevant and engaging news, sports and feature stories about life in their towns," she said.

Cicco grew up in Chelmsford, Mass., and graduated from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., with a bachelor of arts degree in writing and literature.

Cicco joined Seacoast Media Group in 1998 as a reporter for the Rockingham News and became that paper's editor the next year.

As a reporter, she has covered York, Maine, both for the Portsmouth Herald and The York Weekly.

Her work has been honored by the New Hampshire, Maine and New England press associations.

She will start in her new position on Monday, Jan. 17.
