HAMPTON – Allen R. Bridle, 35, of 530 Winnacunnet Road, a former selectman, died Feb. 26 after a sudden illness.

He was a first-grade teacher in Raymond Elementary School and a regional manager for A.L. Williams Insurance of North Hampton.

He and his wife, Virginia (Bartlett) Bridle, owned and operated the Giving Tree Learning Center in Epping for the past five years.

He was a former principal of the Epping Elementary School, where he was employed nine years before leaving in 1984 to become district representative for U.S. Rep. Robert Smith.

He was born in Portsmouth July 29, 1952, the son of Robert W. Bridle and the late Constance T. (Young) Bridle and had been a Hampton resident since he was 2 years old. He was a 1971 graduate of Winnacunnet High School and a 1975 graduate of Plymouth State College.

He was a former trustee of the University System of New Hampshire, appointed by Gov. Meldrim Thomson.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and director of the church school.

He was a member and past patron of Tide Mill Chapter 67, Order of Eastern Star, and was current grand representative to Scotland.

He was a member and past noble grand of the Rockingham Lodge 22 IOOF, and a member and scribe of Odlin Encampment 19.

He was a member and president of the Hampton Historical Society, and a member of St. James Lodge No. 102, F.& A.M.

He was president of the Hampton Republican Committee.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Wesley Allen Bridle and John Robert Bridle, both of Hampton; his father and stepmother, Robert W. and Mary (Ring) Bridle of Hampton; two brothers, Robert W. Bridle, Jr. and Russell V. Bridle, both of Hampton, a sister, Pamela Caskey of Strafford and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church with          the Rev. Warren H. Deane, rector, officiating. Burial will follow in the High Street Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Seacoast Hospice, P.O. Box 37 Exeter, NH 03833.
