HAMPTON -- Leo Pacheco, 84, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.
He was born November 16, 1923, in Taunton, Mass., the son of the late Joseph and Mary L. (Dias) Pacheco. He was raised in Raynham, Mass., and had resided in Hampton for more than 40 years.
Mr. Pacheco was the former owner and founder of Modern Radio and TV in North Hampton.
He is survived by his wife, Bette J. (Bowlen) Pacheco of Hampton; one son and his wife, Donald L. and Annette Pacheco of Stockbridge, Mich.; one daughter, Mary Lou B. Pacheco and her fiancé Dan of North Hampton; one stepdaughter, Kathryn Nazzaro and her husband Michael of Saugus, Mass.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Pierce, Richard Stephen Lancaster, Scott Pacheco, Jane Pacheco Crawley and David Pacheco; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy McCarthy and her husband Fred, and Margaret Rose, all of Raynham, and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Pamela J. Pacheco.
WE REMEMBER: He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, enlisting in 1940 at the age of 17.
He served at Pearl Harbor and in the South Pacific. Mr. Pacheco retired in 1960 after 20 years of service as a boatswain's mate first class. He served aboard the USS Wright, USS Tarawa, USS Philippine Sea, USS Coral Sea and the battleship USS North Carolina.
He was later stationed at Quonset Point, R.I., and served as an instructor at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Prison.
He enjoyed flying his own plane and was an avid golfer. After being on ships for 20 years of his life, he enjoyed his recreational vehicle, RV'ing across the country with his wife Bette and their three companions Beau, Buttons and Tinker Belle.
He wintered in Fruitland Park, Fla., for many years where he loved to watch the ladies softball team, "Wild Things" of Water Oak, Fla.
SERVICES: There are no visiting hours.
Services will be held Saturday, May 24, at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will follow in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
