HAMPTON - Judy Ann (Harris) Preston, 70, died at home on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 with her children and dogs by her side, after a long illness and valiant battle with breast cancer.

Judy was the daughter of the late Ralph T. and Harriet A. (Collis) Harris, and, like her parents, was an integral part of their beloved Hampton Beach.

Judy started her career at Changing Times Magazine in Washington D.C. before moving back to Hampton and loving her career as a teacher in Epping. In addition, Judy built several successful businesses including a near 30 year run with the Go-Go Putt Miniature Golf Course, popularizing “The Pirate” as a Hampton Beach landmark.

Most recently, Judy gained fame as “The Lady with a Ghost Ship as her neighbor.” While her final sunset went down over “The Guest List,” her family feels she enjoyed being part of a tale that will live on in Hampton Beach legend.

Judy leaves behind her son, Richard Harris Preston, her source of great pride, great laughs, and lots of shared mischief, who she taught that chowda’ really is the only food one needs; her daughter, Alicia Ann Preston, her Sunday puzzle, rummy, road trip and lunch partner whom she taught, “The more Poodles the better”; her granddaughter, Alexandra Rose Preston, her “Boody Boo”, who’s hand rub was the only one that made the heart rate on the monitor come down and who Grammy taught to take her reign as SkeeBall Queen of Hampton Beach. Known, depending on the audience, as Mama Preston, Mrs. Preston, Judy, Mom or Grammy, she leaves behind a devoted and loving family and circle of admirers and friends. Judy taught them all a love of family, love of God, love of country, love of life and love of love.

Judy will be remembered as an amazing mother. As someone who lived a life of adventure & travel, of hard-work and of devotion to her family. Judy Harris Preston will be remembered as someone who always knew how to live.

In addition to her immediate family, Judy leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and loved ones, including her three beloved Poodles.

In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Harris.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Judy’s service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Rd., Hampton. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
