HAMPTON - Richard C. "Dick" Tourtellot, 89, of Hampton, formerly of North Hampton, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Adams, Mass., a son of the late Carl T. and Irene (Laraway) Tourtellot.

He was raised in Winchester, Mass., and was a graduate of Winchester High School with the Class of 1943 and Tufts University in 1949. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army Air Force as a navigator.

Mr. Tourtellot was well known in the seacoast as a property developer. He and his business partner of 42 years, Charles H. Miller, were co-founders and partners of New England Homes of Portsmouth, started in 1961. Charlie and Dick went on to build and manage the Little Harbor Development Co. that owned the Hampton Arms and Derry Arms apartments while they continued to build several area sub-divisions and spec homes.

He moved to the seacoast in 1963 coming from Reading, Mass. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a long-time member of the Concord, Mass., Rod and Gun Club and started the first seacoast snow mobile club, the Snow Finders.

Love of family is Dick's legacy. The Tourtellot's have been holding week long bi-annual reunions since he initiated the first in 1978 in Hampton.

Dick was the husband of the late Patricia J. (Martin) Tourtellot, his beloved wife of 32 years, who predeceased him in 1989. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Irving, Carl and Raymond Tourtellot, and his sister Jeanne Tourtellot Currier.

Family members include four children, Richard M. Tourtellot of Hampton, Laura Tourtellot of Newmarket, Linda LaPorta and her husband Jeff of Rye, Jean McCoole and her husband Jim of North Hampton; four grandchildren, Ashleigh and Rachel LaPorta, Hunter and Morgan McCoole his adored sisters in law, Trudy Tourtellot; and his wife's twin, Mary Millington; 78 nieces and nephews and Tourtellot in-laws; as well as his nephew, Paul Millington, and niece, Sandy Lafford.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 5, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. - See more at:
