HAMPTON -- Warmer temperatures are imminent and with its arrival comes time to shed the parkas and the sweaters for something more weather-appropriate.

Summertime attire is often more likely to also reveal more skin and spawns the thought of getting rid of that unwanted hair.

Dermisense owner Debra Wine and her partner Mitzi Prout can help. The two women operate a business dedicated to the reduction of unwanted hair, acne and cellulite.

Through the use of Intense Pulsed Light, Dermisense can greatly reduce the amount of hair growing in places where it's not wanted. The technology uses a specific band of light that is flashed over the treatment area. The light targets the melanin in the hair shaft. Heat and light combine, traveling down the hair shaft to disable the hair follicle so that it is no longer able to produce hair.

Wine said the difference is noticeable from the first treatment.

"Each time you come you have less hair to deal with," said Wine. "It's the most advanced method that we know of. This is intense pulse light, not a laser."

Wine said the number of treatments required are dependant upon location of the unwanted hair, but as a rule, hair above the neck is usually treated every four weeks, while hair below the neck is treated every six.

"We recommend six treatments," she said.

And the women said there are more male clients taking advantage of their services as well. Wine said men ranging in age from early 20s to their 50s are discovering Dermisense.

"They (men) have become much more aware of this now," said Wine.

"That fear of taking your shirt off because of a hairy back doesn't have to be," added Prout.

Dermisense also utilizes ultrasound technology to lessen cellulite and help clear up acne. The act of heating tissue in combination with different pulses and massage stimulates circulatory and lymphatic systems. The result is less noticeable fatty tissue.

Whether seeking treatment for hair reduction, cellulite reduction or acne reduction, Wine said clients need to be mindful that although results will be noticeable, they are all a commitment.

"Most people don't realize that this is a permanent procedure," said Wine. "It does take time to do it."

Wine admits the treatments offered at Dermisense are not for everybody.

"We can't service very light or gray hair," she said. "The higher the contrast between your hair and skin tone the better the results.
