HAMPTON -- The Hampton Beach Village District and the town are still working out final details on a new lease agreement for the fire station on Ashworth Avenue.

John Kane, precinct commissioner for the Village District, said he believes the lease will be signed next week.

The commissioners have requested to be put on the agenda for Monday's selectmen's meeting to discuss the issue.

The precinct, which owns the fire station on Ashworth Avenue, has agreed to offer the town a new lease for three years.

The extension, which calls for the town to pay the precinct $1 a year, will allow both parties to work together to find a viable location for a new fire substation at Hampton Beach.

Selectmen were scheduled two weeks ago to sign the new lease, but Fire Chief Hank Lipe had some concerns with it, according to a memo given to the board by Town Attorney Mark Gearreald.

Lipe said he couldn't comment on those concerns.

"I can't really comment on it because we are still having discussions with the attorney," Lipe said.

Those concerns have been resolved, Kane said.

"There really isn't any issues," Kane said. "It's basically the same lease that we had before."

Kane said concerns had to do with parking and the use of the dispatch office.

The precinct wanted to reclaim two parking spaces in front of its garage that have been used for the fire chief to park his car.

"The bottom line is with the loss of parking that has occurred down here, we wanted to try and relieve the burden," Kane said.

While it would only be four spaces, Kane said it would generate more revenue for the precinct.

The other issue had to do with the dispatch office. Kane said the precinct wanted to be able to use that office if the dispatch center were to move to the uptown station.

Kane said both issues have been addressed. The precinct agreed to allow the chief to park in those spaces during the week, but on the weekend they can be used to park tourists.

As for the dispatch office, Kane said the commissioners agreed the precinct would not be able to lease out that space, but could use it for its office.
