HAMPTON - Town officials announced that the new access road to the landfill will be named after the late George Hardardt, the former Director of Public Works. Hardardt, who passed away in December of 1994, worked in the town's Department of Public Works (D.P.W.) for 22 years. He was the Director of that department when he retired in 1986. Hardardt was known for expressing his views at the town's annual town meetings.

Selectman Brian Warburton said it was with "great pleasure" that officials named the road in Hardardt's name as he has spent "so many hours there" (at the former town dump).

Selectmen Chairman Mary-Louise Woolsey said she was very happy the road had been named after Hardardt. "I just hope George has somehow been able to take a look at the grass growing up there," said Woolsey. "It makes me proud."
