HAMPTON -- Hampton Academy without the Junior High? That is the name school officials are considering using from now on.

The Hampton School Board discussed the name change Tuesday night but will not finalize it until the trustees have had a chance to discuss the proposal.

The change is a result of the board’s decision two months ago to adopt the middle school approach of teaching rather than that of a junior high.

The change to Hampton Academy has already received approval from the school’s community council, according to Principal Fred Muscara.

One of the reasons school officials nixed calling it Hampton Academy Middle School is because the abbreviation would have been HAMS, said School Board member John Bridle.
