HAMPTON -- Sacred Heart School is pleased to announce the appointment of a new principal, Catherine C. Smith of Exeter.

Smith was most recently the director of religious education at St. Michael's Parish in Exeter. She has taught at Winnisquam Regional High School, Plymouth State College, and St. Claire High School, Roslindale, Mass. Smith holds a master's degrees in business education and theology.

Smith said she was nearly overwhelmed by the welcoming spirit of the Sacred Heart School "family" and was pleased to be part of this faith community.

"In preparing our children for the future we must be careful to educate the whole child — spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically," Smith said. "Sacred Heart School is a great example of a learning environment where children are encouraged, challenged, enriched, and supported as they learn."

Sacred Heart School is a Catholic elementary school serving children in pre-kindergarten through Grade 8. The strong academic program challenges students intellectually and imaginatively as they grow, officials said. The faculty nurtures creative thought, ethical behavior, and moral values — the qualities that make our communities great. Sacred Heart School also provides full-day kindergarten, before-school care, and after-school care to accommodate parents' schedules. Enrollment is ongoing for all grades.
