USS Hampton Committee

Hampton Union, March 11, 2011

Selectmen voted to sunset the official town committee of the USS Hampton, which was created to honor the town's namesake submarine, the USS Hampton.

The board agreed this week to disband the committee at the request of Chairman Edward "Sandy" Buck.

"Our appointments are up and I and the committee feel that we have done our job and completed our task," stated Buck in his letter to the board.

The committee was formed to help coordinate festivities when the crew arrived in Portsmouth.

Buck said there has had no activity in more than a decade and the last report the committee gave was in the annual Town Report in 2002.

However, he added should the submarine make a return visit, the committee could be reactivated by selectmen, if they so desire.
