EPPING — Wilfred Joseph LaBarre, D.C., 74, of 70 Red Oak Hill Lane, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at his farm.

Born on April 23, 1926, in Norwich, Conn., he was the only son of the late Wilfred Joseph LaBarre Sr., and the late Emma Fink LaBarre.

He lived in Epping since the early 1960s. He served as health officer in Epping during that time period. He established a successful Straight Chiropractic Clinic in Hampton and never missed a day of work.

He was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy and he attended Aviation Technical School in Putnam, Conn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aerial gunner specialist.

On Jan. 22, 1953, he graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic. He was licensed to practice in New Hampshire on Sept. 11, 1953.

From 1954 to 1972 he was a member of the Hampton Lions Club. On July 11, 1966, he was licensed to practice in Oklahoma. On May 12, 1965, he received his license to practice in South Carolina.

From 1968 to 1969 he was president of the N.H. Cooperative Chiropractic Society. In 1970 he served as president of the Granite State Chiropractic Society. In 1973 he became a member of the distinguished Board of Regents at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in Spartanburg, S.C. He remained an active regent and gave generously over the years to the college to ensure the advancement of the Straight Chiropractic movement.

From 1981 to 1986 he served as second vice president of the N.H. Straight Chiropractic Society. In 1983 he received the highest award given by Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic: He was named "Chiropractor of the Year" for his expertise in the science of Straight Chiropractic and his many years of research in the field.

He was a member of the board of directors at Pennsylvania Straight Chiropractic College in 1983. From 1987 to 2000, he lectured to various groups and societies in the United States.

He is survived by one daughter, Laura Melisi and her husband, John, of Somersworth; one son, Gregory of Portsmouth; his former wife, Leone LaBarre of Seabrook; Sheila LaBarre; and many beloved cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Edwina (Kolacz) LaBarre — wife of seven years — who died in 1983.
